Oh-la-la Lilacs!

In our May insert we cover how to prune lilacs, but I forgot to mentions that when you bring them in as a bouquet, hammer the woody stems. You do this so the flowers can absorb water in the vase. Margret Roach has a great how-to on her blog.

Sensation Lilac - dark purple buds open to white and purple blooms. Striking flowers with and equally powerful lilac scent.

Donald Wyman Lilacs - the softest pink buds open into almost white blooms.

Miss Kim Lilacs - dark buds open to light pink blooms.
