Vitex: Victoria's #1 Favorite Plant

Deer resistant and late blooming, Vitex is a shrub Victoria uses often. Vitex has proven to be cold hardy. It is very late to leaf out, but delivers a great late show. Come in and see what Victoria has been raving about. Blooming now!

Peachy dahlias.

Ligularia 'The Rocket' likes moist soil and part sun.

Echinachea in oh so many colors!

Echinachea 'Green Jewel'.

Delphiniums are available in a range of sizes, from dwarf varieties less than 2 feet tall to those with towering, 6-foot blooms. Flower color includes blue, red, white, and yellow; however, the rich, clear blues are especially prized by many gardeners. The plants bloom in late spring to early summer, and the flowers are suitable for cutting.

'Quickfire' Hydrangea - A Late Summer Star

I know we've talked about "Quickfires' in previous posts, but they are worth revisiting because they are just that fabulous.

Not only that, but right now in the nursery we have 'Quickfires' trained into tree form, and when they start changing colors they will fly out the door.

Blooming white and then transforming into an antique lace pink, and finally darkening to a deep reddish hue, these hydrangea are very Victorian.

In either shrub or tree form they will reach 10 to 12 feet high and wide.

Do You Need Some Late Summer Blooms?

If your garden is starting to wind down and peter out, we have plenty of options for you to fill in with late-bloomers.

New varieties of Hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) with much bigger flowers. These blooms are incredible.

Phlox looking full and fresh.

Liatris (Gay feather) is a great hardy perennial shown here in front of a delicate-leafed, flowering Lespedeza. (Honeybees are attracted to Lespedeza's pinkish- purple flowers which bloom in late summer when few other plants valuable to beekeepers are blooming.)
